The Défi Corporatif Canderel is a fundraiser for academic research on cancer. This yearly event was created in 1989 by Mr. Jonathan Wener, a Montreal businessman. It consists of a run through Montreal streets during which participating companies make donations to support academic research on cancer. The Institut du Cancer de Montreal and the McGill Cancer center are both beneficiaries of this event.

Thanks to these annually collected funds from the Défi Corporatif Canderel, the Institut du cancer de Montréal has established the Canderel/Institut du cancer de Montréal scholarship. Each year, the Institut is able to provide roughly 20 scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $7,000 to Masters and Post-doctoral students.
